In FAUNO, Liliana Barros revisits an iconic myth that has haunted literature, music, and ballet across centuries. Drawing on Stéphane Mallarmé’s symbolist poem L’Après-midi d’un faune, Claude Debussy’s lush 1894 score, and Vaslav Nijinsky’s provocative 1912 ballet, Barros crafts a contemporary reimagining of the faun as a figure caught between instinct and introspection.
Fascinated by Symbolism’s cross-disciplinary pull—its spirituality, dream logic, and reverence for the unspoken—Barros delves into the mythic archetype through the lens of the Anthropocene. What does the faun represent in a world reshaped by human dominance? FAUNO explores this liminal creature as a vessel for modern desire, taboo, and transformation, blurring the borders between nature and artifice, past and possible future.
